got jellies?

round glowing tanks took center stage in the dark, ominous room filled with jellies. (even the music was ominous). elegant was the word that popped into my head when we walked into the exhibit. most of the tanks were difficult to photograph due to lighting; i could not get the settings on my camera switched in the dark space so i just tried to walk around and enjoy the tanks.
other tanks were side-lit with blue backgrounds which made the jellies easier to view. it was futuristic in style; each tank had a news-crawl style screen showing the scientific name along with interesting facts. one stated that they have simple bodies with a large center mouth where food comes in and waste goes out. "cool" said little man. they have no brain, but are covered with nerves which detect light (letting them know up from down) odor, and prey. some of the tentacles appeared to be more than three feet long. it was really cool just watching them free float in the water.

a glimpse of the ocean from the view of scuba gear. the end.

  1. I'm teaching my preschoolers about the ocean and next week we will talk about jelly fish. The pictures you posted are really good!
